Vocational rehabilitation – CHRPA

The complicated social integration of drug-free clients with a history of addiction to narcotic substances who suffer from a low frustration threshold, high risk of relapse or personality disorder, and who mostly do not have prior experience of steady employment, is eased by vocational rehabilitation, which constitutes an important part of the process.

The goal of the CHRPA vocational rehabilitation programme is to aid drug-free clients with a history of addiction to narcotic substances and who have completed a long- or medium-term treatment programme and provide them with individual support in the development of specific skills and knowledge essential to their engagement in the normal employment process. We create for them concrete and meaningful employment opportunities in our gardening and carpentry workshops, where they can take control of themselves, develop, build and consolidate their work ethic and gain practical experience and skills. The end result of these activities is to make clients self-reliant, independent and self-sufficient in normal life.

Vocational rehabilitation programme

  • offers clients a real-life environment to develop knowledge and skills necessary to find and sustain suitable gainful employment. The programme preserves the specificity of approach to drug addicts, takes account of their individual needs and possibilities and adapts appropriately the working demands made on them.
  • run by specialists with relevant qualifications, who develop clients and teach them basic knowledge, practical manual skills, systematic and purposeful activities, working rhythms, hierarchies, planning and organisation of individual tasks and skills and orientation in working relationships.
  • is primarily intended as education and training, but also fulfils a therapeutic function. > Stimulates the personal growth of clients, > helps increase their self-confidence and > promotes the concept of shared responsibility > teaches them to make their own decisions.
  • the proceeds from clients’ work within the programme contribute to the treatment of those who have just entered residential care in the Therapeutic Community. This helps them to understand the wider context of aid given to them by the state at a time when they themselves were not capable of providing for their basic needs, and responsibility of citizens to not only create values to provide for their own needs, but also for those who, for example, urgently require help due to a diagnosis for addiction.
  • Experience of success at work is, for clients, a crucial milestone on their road to becoming fully-fledged members of society and engaged in normal working life.
